Kikuya
喜久屋
Tucked away in Kanda-Misakicho, Kikuya is a modest neighbourhood sweetshop offering affordable seasonal wagashi, from fragrant sakura mochi to chestnut treats and citrusy yuzu manju.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Set along the street connecting Jimbocho and Suidobashi, in a quiet pocket of Kanda-Misakicho, Kikuya is an unassuming wagashi sweetshop that also doubles as a tobacco counter. Tucked slightly off the main thoroughfare, its calm, understated storefront welcomes passersby looking for a relaxed, everyday stop between errands.
While the overall selection is compact rather than overwhelming, the counter reliably showcases seasonal unbaked sweets known as namagashi. In early spring, the sakura mochi releases a refreshing aroma of pickled cherry leaves the moment the wrapping is opened, offering an evocative pause in the day. Other staples include kuri-chakin, with its simple chestnut sweetness, and fragrant yuzu manju with citrus notes, all priced affordably for an unpretentious daily treat.
Open on weekdays as well as Saturdays until 18:00 in the evening, the shop is a practical destination when taking a walk through the Kanda district or picking up a sweet snack on the way home from work. Geared toward quick visits, it provides a quiet, satisfying taste of traditional confectionery on a neighbourhood stroll.
